Licensing
Try it with the mark, ship it with a key
- Try it. The full engine, free for evaluation. Files it writes carry a visible “evaluation” mark.
- Get a key. A licence key bound to your app’s bundle ID or your web domain, signed by us.
- Ship. The engine checks the key offline at launch. The mark disappears. No server, no tracking, no surprise shutdowns.
1. Try it: the evaluation mark
Without a licence key the engine does everything, and every file it hands back carries a visible evaluation mark:
- PDF: every page.
- Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx) and a zip of workbooks: the document.
- CSV and pictures carry no mark.
- A file the engine encrypts is marked before it is locked.
You can see the mark now: the live demo runs the real engine without a key on purpose.
2. Get a key
A key is a signed text that starts with EL1.. It names who may run the engine without the mark:
- Apps: bound to your app’s bundle ID. The engine reads the bundle ID itself; your app never passes it in.
- Web: bound to your domains. The engine reads the page’s origin itself.
*.example.comcovers subdomains, not the apex, so list both. - Updates: a key covers engine builds up to its
updates_untildate. That date is compared with the engine’s build date, not with the clock, so a key never stops working on a device.
The key is not a secret: it is useless anywhere but on your app or domain.
3. Ship: the offline check
Hand the key to the engine once, at launch. It checks the signature on the device and answers what it made of it. There is no server and no phone-home.
let status = setLicense(key: "EL1.…")
// status.licensed, status.reason ("ok" or why not), status.app (the bundle ID read)var status = Engine.SetLicense("EL1.…");const engine = await load({ base, license: "EL1.…" });
// engine.license: { licensed, reason, ... }On the web, localhost and 127.0.0.1 count as development: results there carry no mark, with or without a key.
